Types and characteristics of injection molded resin materials

PC - Polycarbonate

PC is a thermoplastic resin that has strong impact resistance and excellent heat resistance. Sometimes called organic glass. The disadvantage is that the chemical durability is poor and adhesives cannot be used. The main products using PCs are optical discs and canopies of aircraft cockpits.

ABS - Acrylonitrile, Butadiene, Styrene

ABS is a thermoplastic resin with impact resistance. You can also print characters with a beautiful surface. The disadvantage is that it easily deteriorates when exposed to direct sunlight. It is mainly used for TV remote controls and toy blocks.

PBT - Polybutylene terephthalate

PBT is characterized by high electrical characteristics and is highly flexible. It may be made by mixing glass, and if it contains a lot of glass, it has high strength. It does not melt even if it comes in contact with fuel or oil. However, it is not very resistant to acids, bases and hydrocarbons. It is mainly used for parts such as coffee makers and toasters.

POM - Polyoxymethylene

POM is a resin that is sometimes called "polyacetal" and is a plastic that has excellent toughness and rigidity, as well as elasticity and slidability. Although it has excellent lubricity, it has disadvantages such as difficulty in coating. It is often used for gears and car gears.

PP - Polypropylene

PP is a thermoplastic resin that is resistant to impact and wear, and is also resistant to acids and bases. Since it is cheaper than other resins, it is widely used in daily necessities such as packaging films and food containers. However, the drawback is that it becomes fragile when placed in low temperatures.

PPA - Polyphthalamide

PPA is a plastic called nylon. It is relatively hard and resistant to heat and chemicals. The advantage is that it does not wear easily even if it is used for a long time. However, it has high hygroscopicity and is not suitable for use in humid places. It is mainly used for automobile parts and camera parts.

In injection molding, the property that the resin melts with heat is used to obtain molded products, but the actual work differs greatly depending on the type of resin material to be injected.
